Technology – it can amaze but also terrify you. Particularly when it’s capable of knowing all about you, as the recent Facebook headlines have highlighted. So there’s likely some mixed feelings about the latest development for drivers in Dubai… Next month there’ll be a trial that will see number plates go digital in the UAE’s capital city. But along with digital screens they’ll also have GPS and transmitters. On the plus side, it means that if there’s an accident, the technology will make things easier for the emergency services as they’ll be able to identify the location easily. But for those on the more cautious side, it also means that not only will your online life be easily trackable, but your actual one too. And you don’t have to major in conspiracy theories to worry about why this could be a cause for concern. Wax on, wax off!

You only have to be in a traffic jam to see that there’s a big difference in the amount of time people spend looking after their vehicles - some gleam and some, well, just don’t. Assuming that everyone washes their vehicle once in a while, a key difference in retaining the sparkle on a car or van is the waX factor. It’s the only way to keep or create that ‘just out the showroom’ look. Waxing protects your paint from the rain and any other weather it might be hit with by sealing it. But how often should you do it? Guides go from advising twice a year, to every three months. However, if you’ve lost track of time and want to check if your vehicle needs a wax, just chuck some water on it and then take a look – does the water bead up? If so, then it means that your car is still protected by a coat of wax. If not, then it’s time to put a bit of elbow grease in! Another thing to consider is what kind of environment you live in. If you live on the side of a busy road then you’re more exposed t
