The British vehicle manufacturer Rover originally named only one specific vehicle model the Land Rover back in 1948 and over the years it quickly developed into a marque encompassing a range of four-wheel-drive models. Land Rover as a company has only existed since 1978. The earliest models closely resembled World War II military jeeps, as the first prototype model was built on a Jeep chassis and axles. The original inspiration for the iconic oval logo is said to have come from a pilchard tin and the Land Rover was renamed 'Defender' in 1990. To celebrate this milestone, Land Rover will mark 65 years of technology and innovation with an event at Packington Estate near Solihull; Land Rover’s first off-road testing ground. Land Rover has announced that the All-New Range Rover has won its first notable award. The All-New Range Rover was declared Top Gear magazine’s Luxury Car of the Year. The award was judged by Top Gear’s motoring journalists and the presenters of the Top Gear TV programme. Jaguar Land Rover has announced today that they plan to draw the world’s attention to all things British with the debut of three exciting new luxury models in the U.S. at the 2012 Los Angeles International Automobile Show, November 28 – December 9. Land Rover has announced the launch of their All-New Range Rover that was designed and engineered here in the UK. This will be the fourth generation of the iconic Range Rover line up and is set to be debuted at an event held at The Royal Ballet School in Richmond, London. Land Rover is reporting that the new, just under 5m long, Range Rover is the "world's first SUV with a lightweight all-aluminium monocoque body structure," which is 39 per cent lighter than the steel body in previous models. It will still remain structural strong and its wading depth has improved by 200mm to 900mm, and its position as the best towing vehicle in its class with a 3,500kg trailer capability.
