Signs it’s time to fix your car

Image
Fixing your car can be costly, but it’s even more costly if you leave the problem to get worse. It’s important to drive a well-maintained car because you put not only yourself but others in danger if there’s a problem.   There are some signs you can look out for to know when a problem is starting to form. The most obvious sign is the lights on your dashboard – make sure you brush up on what each light means. However, not all of your problems will be so obvious. If your steering doesn’t feel right, it could be a number of issues. It might just be because your tyres are underinflated, or it could be a problem with the steering wheel. They might name it, buy a personalised air freshener and the brave among us might even get some decal on the bumper – but how many people make sure that their car will have a long lifetime? Well, according to research only seven out of ten drivers know how to carry out basic tests like checking oil levels. It’s not hard, and most of it is common sense – that said, it is important to remind yourself of these titbits of information the next time your MOT swings around. So, without further ado, here are five tips to make your car last longer: 1.      Check your tires and rims regularly Get a grip. Literally, don’t let your tires get to the point where general wear on your suspension system puts your drive-train under too much pressure – maintaining balance and acceleration are way too important. If you’re not careful, you could find yourself in a sticky situation. 2.   ...

When you find an old crisp packet or a leftover sandwich bag in your car, that’s par for the course. However, you probably don’t expect to check your engine and be greeted by a rat gorging on a takeaway feast. For Laura Frackelton, this was the nightmare that awaited her upon opening her partner’s car bonnet. Earlier this August in Huyton, Mersey, she found a rat’s nest burrowed in the engine of the car – with the remains of chicken nuggets, chicken wings and other assorted bits clogged inside. This is not an isolated case either – reports of possums , cats and even a deer being trapped or choosing to make their home in people’s cars are more widespread than you would think! After all, engines create a warm and cosy environment for small mammals to live in. Continuing from the theme of last week’s blog, we once again look at the bizarre things found in some people’s vehicles and the unfortunate results. However, this time we’ve got some advice about keeping out the...
