Low Cost Vans

Another notable van fleet contract deal was announced this week. Nissan has agreed a four-year deal to provide seven NV200 commercial vehicles to tyre company, Bridgestone. The world’s largest tyre company will certainly be glad of these vans, as they themselves had just won a  large contract with Ulsterbus, the Northern Irish public transport operator. The vans will be driven by Bridgestone tyre technicians carrying out tyre inspections and fittings. The contracted NV200’s are fitted with ply lining and will cover 20,000 miles each year. The drivers have already praised the van for its spacious load capacity and driver comfort over long distances. Barry Beeston, Nissan corporate sales director said: “These vans will be covering a lot of miles across Northern Ireland making the NV200 the ideal van for any business requiring comfortable and reliable transport. We now look forward to supporting Bridgestone over the years to come as their contract business continues to grow.” As a light...

If you are a musician, are in a band, or just love really cool vans, then you are going to be amazed by the new NV200 Compact Cargo van that will be unveiled on March 27 at the New York International Auto Show. I read a post on Motor Trends TRUCK TREND website about the new Gibson NV200 Repair and Restoration Van made by Nissan. It is a collaboration between Nissan and the famous Nashville, Tennessee based guitar and instrument manufacturer in America, Gibson. Its purpose is to serve as an extension of Gibson's Repair and Restoration shop so musicians in the area playing gigs at festivals, in studios, or live shows can get quick access to repairs. Gibson also sees it as an educational tool to the public, as it can teach them about the art of guitar building and repair. The van will be stocked with everything needed to repair guitars and is painted with a beautiful rich mahogany guitar on the side of the van and includes rich leather seats on the inside. The most recently talked about news in motoring surrounds the new London Taxi cabs built by Nissan. In a recent press release Nissan introduced a new Nissan NV200 version for London Taxi's based on the  multi-purpose NV200 compact van. The all-electric e-NV200 London Taxi prototype is to be tested in 2013 and is reportedly backed by Mayor, Boris Johnson. Tokyo has already seen the Nissan NV200 Taxi versions and in America, it has been chosen as the exclusive New York City ‘Taxi of tomorrow’. Nissan claim that they will be more affordable, have more comfort, space and convenience,  and can offer a 50% increase in fuel efficiency. Steve McNamara, General Secretary of the Licensed Taxi Drivers’ Association, said: “Nissan already has a great footing in the London taxi market – the 2.7-litre diesel that featured in some of the early taxis was one of the greatest engines ever put in a cab. Could this be the top eco-friendly van of the future? Nissan has announced its zero emission all-electric van. Meant for the light commercial market, this new CO2 free van will be available in Canada and the USA sometime in 2014. No word yet as to when it will become available in the UK. I’ll be keeping a keen eye on this. I think the e-NV200 will appeal to a broad spectrum of drivers. Aside from the eco angle, an added bonus will be money saved on maintenance and avoiding the ever rising petrol/diesel costs. The 24-kWh battery pack could see mileage on a single charge (similar to the Nissan LEAF) at about 100miles. We will have to keep an eye on this in the next few years to see if it delivers on all that’s promised. Read more details here
