Ice cream as a source of fuel for our motors?

This might sound like an extreme form of a New Year's resolution diet, but parting with your two scoops of Neapolitan ice cream in favour of putting it in your fuel tank instead, might be a novel way to lose weight and save money. Sounds crazy, but that's what was in the motoring headlines yesterday.

I read about this in an interesting article from The Telegraph that claims that scientist from Manchester University have found a way to create fuel from a compound found in ice cream and items such as soap and shampoo. They claim that this just might be a viable alternative to fossil fuel, although it may also take a few years to perfect it.

So we may not be shovelling the dessert in its frozen form directly into our vehicles ( Great, I don’t have to choose between Fuel or Food) and it may not exactly become the next breakthrough fuel source for our vehicles, but it's good to know that scientists are researching and discovering feasible future fuel alternatives.
