First Vauxhall ADAM rolls off production line

Vauxhall proudly announced yesterday that the first ADAM rolled off Eisenach production line. Steve Girsky, GM’s Vice Chairman and GM Europe’s President, declared that the first ADAM off the line marked a ‘new era’ for Vauxhall/Opel. The first ADAM was driven off the line at Opel/Vauxhall’s Thuringia factory by Steve Girsky, accompanied by 2009 European Athletics Indoor Champion, Ariane Friedrich.

This supermini has been billed as the most flexible car in its class, with 61,000 exterior variations and 82,000 different ways to ‘design’ the interior. Its appeal seems to be aimed towards the youthful urban market, but should also attract those looking for an affordable economical small car with its combined fuel consumption and CO2 as low as 56.5mpg and 118g/km. Vauxhall's clever marketing team have characterised the likely buyers of ADAM as "fashion conscious and place great value on individuality; they don’t just follow trends, they create them.” Does that describe you?

Opel/Vauxhall has invested 190 million Euros to be able to produce the ADAM at Eisenach, in addition to the current Corsa, the company’s biggest-selling car in the UK. Over 16,000 orders have already been received from around Europe for ADAM. With OTR prices ranging from £11,255 -14,000 including high levels of standard equipment and the ability to tailor your ADAM in more ways than any other car in mainstream production, this may well be one of the best selling mini's well into 2013.

Vauxhall says, ‘Whoever orders an ADAM today can be quite certain that they won’t see an identical car. Almost every ADAM will be unique – that’s how extensive the diverse range is that we are building here. The highly qualified Eisenach team as well as everyone in the company who has worked on this project can be proud of this day.’

It may be small, but the ADAM still packs in plenty. The ADAM will feature a New IntelliLink infotainment system that connects smartphone to the car - first system compatible with both Android and Apple iOS (and very soon this will be enhanced by Apple’s voice recognition software, SIRI). It will also be the first Vauxhall to include new generation Advanced Park-Assist a system which identifies appropriate parking spaces and steers the car into place. One more reason to consider the ADAM if you are in the market for a small car; as with all Vauxhall passenger cars, ADAM comes with a Lifetime Warranty (available to the first owner for an unlimited time and a maximum of 100,000 miles).

Get ready, ADAMs will reach UK showrooms on March 8, 2013.
