Toyota crowned winner of LowCVP's Car and Van Manufacturer of the Year award

Toyota has proudly announced their title win of Car and Van Manufacturer of the Year in the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership awards. Thanks to being one of the main leaders in reducing the environmental impact of everyday motoring, Graham Smith OBE, Managing Director Toyota Motor Europe London Office, was named Outstanding Individual in Promoting Low Carbon Transport. The awards ceremony in London on 29 January 2013, also presented Coco-Cola Enterprises with Low Carbon Vehicle Operator of the Year and to coincide with its 10-year anniversary, the LowCVP announced that Ford Motor Company Ltd and Transport for London (TfL) were awarded with special anniversary accolades for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Low Carbon Transport over the last 10 years.

Announcing the awards, Andy Eastlake, LowCVP Managing Director, said: “In a year of outstanding growth in UK car sales, Toyota, the name synonymous with hybrids, has introduced the technology across the widest range of vehicles on the market. Thirty per cent of its sales are now of vehicles which produce less than 100g/km of CO2. With an impressive increase in its sales and market share, together with a UK CO2 average below 120g/km, this really does show Toyota’s strong determination to reduce carbon from cars.”

Toyota has launched four new hybrids in the past year including the seven-seat Prius+, Yaris Hybrid, the British-built Auris hybrid hatchback, and Prius Plug-in, which confirmed their commitment to make the low carbon, high efficiency benefits of the technology available to as wide a range of customers as possible. Toyota says they are "committed not only to reduce the CO2 emissions from its vehicles, but from every aspect of its business". Proof of that commitment can be seen by their large scale carbon reduction programme that has been implemented across the 180 Toyota Centre networks, which achieved an impressive 15% year-on-year CO2 reduction in 2012.

Congratulations to Toyota on this fantastic achievement. I look forward to seeing what this environmentally conscious vehicle manufacturer produces next. To view the full list of Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership award winners, please click here.
