Van Excellence scheme gains two new Industry Partners

In the FTA’s newest press release, two big names have been announced as new members of the Freight Transport Association backed Van Excellence scheme. BT Fleet and TomTom Business Solutions have joined Hertz, ATS Euromaster and Route Monkey as the first Industry Partners in 2013. The FTA say that Industry Partners are an important addition to Van Excellence helping to promote and endorse the Van Excellence Code amongst their customers and encourage its standards to be adopted and followed throughout the light commercial vehicle sector.

What the Industry Partners say about supporting Van Excellence:

Dave Bowen, Managing Director – BT Fleet: “BT Fleet is delighted to become a Van Excellence Industry Partner and help raise awareness of the programme’s benefits. Having managed complex van fleets for over fifty years, we are perfectly placed to help van fleet operators with their day-to-day challenges; driver safety, operator compliance and peace of mind.”

Giles Margerison, Sales Director UK and Ireland - TomTom Business Solutions: “TomTom Business Solutions is proud to partner with the FTA on Van Excellence. This partnership fits nicely with our goal to increase awareness of high standards of best practice in van fleets, and facilitate sustainable and successful initiatives that are underpinned by trusted, industry leading Fleet Management technology. This helps raise the standard and promote safe and efficient van fleets across all industry sectors.”

Van Excellence was launched in 2010 in order to promote high standards of van operation and driving by accrediting operators against a code of good practice.

The Van Excellence scheme consists of three stages:

  1. The Van Excellence Code - a comprehensive and realistic code of excellence, setting demanding but achievable standards for van operators. It addresses many issues frequently cited by the public and Government when discussing van operators and drivers and provides a practical operational framework promoting excellent standards and recognising excellent operators.

  2. The audit - assesses the management and operational systems that are in place to achieve the given standards, rather than auditing individual vehicles or drivers (although spot checks on actual compliance may be carried out to verify management practices).

  3. Accreditation - Upon successful completion of the audit, accreditation to Van Excellence is then valid for one year. All successful companies will:

  • receive a Certificate of Excellence

  • be able to use the Van Excellence logo

  • be able to display the Van Excellence vehicle logo on their vans

  • be added to the list of accredited operators on the Van Excellence website

The FTA has also developed a Guide to Van Excellence, designed for organisations  which includes best practice guidance for operating safely, legally and efficiently and is designed to raise and improve standards across van operations. "By joining this scheme you will be demonstrating your commitment to safer, more efficient and sustainable van operations, promoting high standards to your customers and reassuring the public and Government that you are addressing any issues that may concern them", says the FTA.
