VanQuoteDirect offers tips on the importance of regularly servicing and maintaining your van

It doesn't matter if you are a sole trader or a large commercial business, you must have reliable vehicles to get the job done. VanQuoteDirect, through a PRNewswire release, has posted some handy tips on the importance of regularly servicing and maintaining your van. Below are some basic maintenance checks suggested in the article titled, "VanQuoteDirect Looks At Regular Van Maintenance."

You should first start by checking your tyres. Mark Hare, VanQuoteDirect Managing Director, says "Owners can use a depth gauge to measure that the tyre tread is at the legal requirement of 1.6mm. Low tyre pressure uses more fuel and can wear out your tyres quicker, so make sure they are inflated to the correct pressure." He explains that basic steps can make all the difference.

To avoid low or restricted visibility, you should then look at your lights and indicators, make sure they are in good working order especially if you drive for long periods of time. It's suggested that you keep spare bulbs and fuses in the vehicle, just in case.

Next, check your wiper blades, as temperature fluctuations can damage or deteriorate them.  Of course normal wear and tear can cause them to need replacing so they do not reduce visibility by scratching or damage the windscreen.

Another important factor is to check that fluid levels such as the brake fluid, oil and engine coolants are all topped up. Drivers should also make sure that antifreeze fluids are checked after the winter, rainier season where this could have been used more, and double check that the washer jets spray properly for a clear windshield.

These are all basic maintenance checks you can perform to help possibly prolong the life of your van and to potentially avoid any costly annual MOT repair bills. As this is not a full exhaustive list, they also remind you not to forget to read the vehicle's manual to check if there is any extra maintenance activity that is recommended, as routine services vary for each vehicle.
