DVLA lists top ten excuses motorists used for not taxing vehicles

Here is a fun post I read from Fleet News regarding some of the silliest excuses motorists have given as to why they didn't buy or renew their tax disc. I chuckled out loud reading some of the very poor excuses that were given and could not think of why anyone would even bother attempting to use them. My favourite excuse has to be number five on the top ten list, “I took too much Viagra and couldn’t leave the house”. Classic, although I couldn't steal that one for myself.

According to information taken last year from the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Agency (DVLA), most of the excuses seem to begin with the typical line, “it’s not my fault", but if they had just pulled a finger out and taxed their van or car, then they wouldn’t have been slapped with an £80 instant fine. And in some cases, the fine cost them more than the initial tax would have been. Silly indeed!

Just a reminder, if your van is parked on a public road and it has not been taxed or declared ‘SORN’, it could be clamped, impounded and possibly crushed. With the options to renew your tax disc online or at your local post office, it’s easier than ever to take care of, so I am pretty sure any excuse however silly or seemingly legit, won’t make much difference to the DVLA.

If you have ever used a silly excuse for not taxing, insuring, or declaring your vehicle ‘SORN’, I would love to hear it. Feel free to share your best excuses on the blog or on my twitter page.
