Get ready for the 20th Goodwood Festival of Speed on 12th-14th July

It’s here; the month of July is upon us. We all know what that means, right? Why it’s only a few weeks until one of the biggest annual motoring events begins. The 20th Goodwood Festival of Speed takes place on 12th-14th July.

UK motoring fans are in for a treat with even more cars, motor sports, celebrities, and motor culture this year. The Moving Motor Show, presented by RAC Cars will be available on the day before the main event on the 11th (the dedicated manufacture preview day) and offers new car buyers and motoring enthusiasts the opportunity to see the very latest models up close, and possibly even test drive some of them for yourself on a dedicated vehicle evaluation route within the grounds of the Goodwood Estate.

All of the major vehicle manufacturers will be there showing off their latest line-up of cars, trucks, and vans throughout the main event, but don’t forget about the evaluation drive event taking place during the Moving Motor Show. Each manufacturer attending the show will be running its latest model on a purpose-built test route and have a representative present in the vehicle to help explain the controls and the various attributes of the car being driven. Nothing better than live demos in an action packed environment and adding on the the Festival of Speed hillclimb, whoa, it’s going to be a good one.

Volkswagen has reported that they are celebrating 60 years of importing vehicles to the UK this year and are poised to showcase their new XL1 futuristic supercar (see photo to right from VW’s latest press release) at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. VW say, “The XL1 is the world’s most fuel-efficient production vehicle, with an official combined fuel consumption figure of 313 mpg and CO2 emissions of 21 g/km, and it is also one of the most advanced vehicles in the world”. I kind of like what I see so far, it looks a bit like driving a silver bullet. I can’t wait to explore it in person and to watch it being driven by Formula One legend and six-times Le Mans winner Jacky Ickx.

My absolute favourite attraction at the festival is driving an SUV through the off-road driving course (it was amazing last year) and of course checking out the latest supercars amongst all of the other fabulous vehicles that will be on show. Hey, a girl can dream.

So who wouldn’t want to attend what the Festival of Speed‘s official website calls, “The motor racing's equivalent of Ascot or Wimbledon: an extravaganza of sound and colour that has been described as 'the garden party of the Gods'.” Get your tickets by visiting the website here.
