Latest SMMT data reveals commercial vehicle output fell in July 2013

Keeping up to date with UK vehicle manufacturing data, I have read the SMMT's recently released figures for July 2013. In the previous report, the outlook was expected to be quite positive with CV registrations predicted to stay on the up during the first six months of this year. So what has changed since the last report, if anything?

According to the SMMT’s latest figures, commercial vehicle (CV) output fell 11.8% to 7,942 units in July and year-to-date levels show a fall of 13.3% during the first seven months of 2013. However, the recent figures have shown export demand remaining strong with a 20.3% increase in the month. Weak demand closer to home is just one factor contributing to the decline in CV numbers. Nigel Base, SMMT Commercial Vehicle Manager said, “The outlook for commercial vehicle manufacturing for the rest of the year continues to be tough, especially following the closure of the Ford facility in Southampton at the end of July”.

Although output of new commercial vehicles has fallen, we know there are still some fantastic current and second hand vans available in the market today. Perhaps now is the time to consider leasing or contract hire of a new van. Here at Low Cost Vans we offer a wide range of new vans for lease or contract hire at great prices. We can supply almost any make of new van and can arrange for free delivery to anywhere in the mainland UK. We have fantastic discounts on all makes and models. Come view the stellar offers available on our website or give us a call, we would be happy to help find the right commercial vehicle to meet your needs.

Better news was reported in the UK car manufacturing side. The market saw a growth of 7% in July with the home market demand here in the UK seeing an increase of 37.5% in support of the new plate change in September. Just recently, the SMMT raised its forecast for 2013 new car registrations.  With strong consumer and business confidence, they are predicting an increase of new car registrations to be up over 8 % on last year.  Interestingly, the SMMT have also reported that there has been an increase of registrations for alternatively-fuelled vehicles (up 17.0% in July) and registrations of plug-in cars (pure electric and plug-in hybrids) over the first seven months of 2013 have also risen 70.7%.

After viewing the latest new car data, it looks like once again Ford has topped the “best sellers” leader board with both the Fiesta and the Focus coming in first and second place respectively, in not only the month of July, but also year to date.
