World premiere of Suzuki's new compact SUV concept model, the iV-4

Another big debut having already made its way to the IAA Frankfurt show this year is the new compact SUV concept model, the iV-4 from Suzuki. The “i” stands for “individuality”, “V” for “vehicle”, and “4”is for “4 wheel-drive”. This model, set to take on the Nissan Juke, Renault Captur and others in this segment, will soon join the Suzuki SUV line-up which began with the LJ series in 1970 and has since expanded with the Vitara in 1988, Jimny in 1998, and Grand Vitara in 2005.

The latest press release from Suzuki defines the concept for the iV-4 with the slogan/theme, "Grab your field", which refers to its powerful, tough and rugged SUV ability and in so, empowering whomever is behind the wheel. It will also be light weight and boast one of the lowest CO2 ratings in its class.

The iV-4 is said to be an “SUV for the present day”, as it has been designed to be personalised to fit customer’s lifestyles by way of exterior parts, colour, texture, etc. The compact dimensions are:

  • Overall length 4,215 (mm)

  • Overall width 1,850 (mm)

  • Overall height 1,665 (mm)

  • Wheelbase 2,500 (mm)

  • Tyre size 235/55R20

Further details about what will be under the distinctive clamshell bonnet have not yet been released, but Suzuki does say, “The four-wheel drive model will come equipped with ALLGRIP, the next generation of 4WD technology, in order to deliver the powerful drive the user expect of an SUV. It will thus offer a combination of design and off-road performance that goes beyond a typical city SUV.”

Production of the iV-4 at the Suzuki plant in Magyar, Hungary is set to begin in 2015 and will be released in Europe. For more details on this forthcoming compact SUV, you can visit the official Suzuki website here.

Even more fascinating debuts are set to take place at the 65th IAA Frankfurt Motor Show. I will be sure to keep a look out for those and other exciting motoring news.
