Fiat Fiorino van recently named the ‘City Van of the Year’

If you have a thriving business to run which requires the use of fleet vans, yet still have a desire to do your bit for the environment, do you opt for the zero emission electric van or choose the most “green” and economical standard van on the market? The decision of whether or not to operate a fleet of environmentally friendly vans can be daunting, especially when you absolutely need to take into account factors such as budgets, business needs/criteria, plus overall costs like maintenance, and fuel.

There are a few standard fuel LCV vans currently on the market that can be both ecologically and economically sound, such as the Fiat Fiorino van which was recently named the ‘City Van of the Year’ for the second year in a row at the 2013 Fleet Van Awards. It was great to see that not only did the Fiorino win accolades for its latest MultiJet II engines, fuel economy, and practicality, but the van maker, Fiat Professional brand, collected the ‘Green Van Manufacturer of the Year’ award too. And not forgetting to mention the Fiat Ducato van also scored 'Highly Commended' in the 'Large Van of the Year' category.

The annual Fleet Van Awards recognise the accomplishments of vehicle manufacturers, fleet operators and suppliers, and are highly coveted by the light commercial vehicle industry.  A win only comes after the judging panel, made up of members of the Fleet News/Fleet Van editorial team plus an independent team of van experts, evaluates each vehicle across a number of core fleet criteria. These include payload, safety, technology, running costs, fuel efficiency, emissions, reliability and the after sales service and back-up offered by the dealer network. Comfort and performance are also a significant factor in deciding the eventual winners.

In the latest press release referring to the win, the Fleet Van Awards judging panel said: "Fiat has focused on the practical application of technology to ensure its vehicles minimise the use of fossil fuels. From its efficient MultiJet engines to the Blue&Me telematics technology which manages driver behaviour, Fiat is equipping fleets with the tools to set their own agenda on the environment."
