Hyundai unveils vision of future mobility, the Intrado

Hyundai Motors has unveiled its new concept car, Intrado, for the first time at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. So what exactly is an Intrado? Hyundai says the new concept vehicle “is a daring concept that shows Hyundai’s vision for future mobility”.

Hmm, that statement doesn’t quite give enough away, but upon further reading of Hyundai’s latest press release, the Intrado is a two-door Korean SUV that will meet our future mobility needs by way of advanced vehicle technologies and intelligent design working in harmony to better engage with not only the driver, but with passengers as well. Nope, still not sure what the vehicle is all about yet. Ok, perhaps Allan Rushforth, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Hyundai Motor Europe can shed more light. He says: “Hyundai Motor’s vision is ‘lifetime partner in automobiles’, and Intrado truly embodies this thinking. We have looked to the future and the roles cars will play in our daily lives. Intrado is also a demonstration of our technological and design abilities, and shows our outlook for mobility in the region. Hyundai has a great SUV heritage in Europe with the hugely-popular ix35 and Santa Fe models; Intrado both draws on this heritage and envisages the compact car requirements of the millennial generation.”

The Intrado, named so after the underside area of an aircraft’s wing that creates lift, will help to showcase the company’s desire to produce lighter, stronger cars which will drive better and be simpler to repair. The influence comes from an intuitive understanding of how consumers’ relationships will evolve with their cars in the future. The car will consist of a super-lightweight frame formed from a mixture of advanced materials and constructed by new manufacturing and joining techniques, promising to be more responsive and to provide agile driving dynamics (aeronautics), due to the lower weight and greater efficiency of its powertrain. The Intrado will be powered by a next-generation hydrogen fuel cell powertrain that utilises a 36 kW lithium-ion battery and can travel up to 373 miles (600 km) before a quick and easy refuelling is necessary.

All in all, a fantastic air-craft like designed emissions-free concept vehicle from Hyundai Motors. For more photos and information, you can visit the Hyundai Motors website here.
