Sneaky parking

So this one is for all you students out there! Swansea Bay Campus has been open to students since September, but there is one small problem, they cannot currently park on site as it has not been completed yet. At the moment people are parking along two streets opposite the campus and are blocking it for residents that live there, so here is a warning…new restrictions are now in place meaning if you park there and you don’t have a residents permit, the traffic warden will be paying a visit. Now I know that you want to be as close to the University as possible when you are on the campus, but the University has put on extra bus services and a cycle track to try and encourage you to be more environmentally friendly. It is also a huge health and safety hazard having a road full of parked cars, especially during the rush hour and with the night’s drawing in before 5pm now, all it takes is one child to appear from behind a car in the road for there to be an accident, so be mindful of where yo

84% of people think more drivers need post-accident training

The vast majority of people think more drivers should be trained in the skills needed to deal with the aftermath of a road traffic collision, according to a survey from the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) and Driver First Assist (DFA). Of the 2,198 respondents, 50% said they would like to participate in such training themselves, and 34% were interested in finding out more. The majority of people, 79%, said that they would stop and help if they arrived at a road traffic collision before the emergency services, and 44% have done so already, with a further 10% saying they would if they had received the correct training. When asked specifically about first aid, 75% would consider stopping to give medical assistance to someone who was injured. A quarter answered that although they hadn’t received any training they still felt they knew enough to make a difference and save someone’s life. 50% of respondents had received some level of training and felt they would be confident enough to p

Do you know what speeding really means?

Over the last decade, the biggest motor related offence where someone was found guilty is speeding and unfortunately, it is on the rise. In the last 12 months there has been a 28 per cent rise of drivers found guilty of breaking the law, rising from 115,935 to a staggering 148,426. But what is more worrying, is how many people who drive business vans don’t know that they have much lower maximum speeds than cars. On a dual carriageway a van is only allowed to travel at 60 miles an hour not 70. So what does it really mean if you get caught speeding? It is not as simple as a slap on the wrist and away you go. First up is the fine and the 3 points on your license. It’s normally a fixed penalty of £100. If you are caught really speeding then it is up to 6 points on your licence, more fines, court costs and normally a payment to any victim. The maximum you can be fined is £1,000 but it rises to £2,500 if you get caught speeding excessively on the motorway. Then there is the chance of losing

The debate between petrol and diesel

Over the last few months, there has been a tug of war between the costs of petrol versus the cost of diesel. As it stands diesel is currently winning the battle and is two pence cheaper than petrol at most forecourts across Wales. This is the first time diesel has been cheaper for more than 14 years, and as you can imagine if it stays this way for a while, a lot of people will be asking the question “is it better to buy a diesel car?” So we did some research to look at what might be better for you. The pros of diesel Diesel is now cheaper than petrol…for now, but diesel actually lasts a lot longer than petrol so you will be filling up less anyway. Diesel cars are also much more environmentally friendly than a petrol car so car tax will be cheaper (unless the Government scraps existing car tax charges). Cons of diesel Diesel cars unfortunately get hit with charges in town centres. This does not happen so much but there is talk that the Government is looking at a new charge scheme for di
