A whizz through the winners in the What Van? Awards 2018

Thinking of a van for a Christmas Present? Then it might help to know which vans came up trumps in the recent What Van Awards… After a nail biting wait, finalists were announced this week, and here are the headlines:

It was a new kid on the block that took the spotlight, with the recently released VW Crafter being crowned the 2018 Light Commercial Vehicle of the Year as well as Large Van of the Year.

The new model is said to have been created after consultation with 900 customers to find out exactly what they wanted from a van and the way it operated. Perhaps this is why is was described as ‘the most significant new model to arrive on the UK market during the past 12 months.’

If you’re looking for a smaller van then look no further than the Small Van of the Year, the Ford Transit Courier. Or it’s specifically a light van that you’re after, the Fiat Professional Doblo Cargo won in this category for the third year in a row with its key points being that it has “enduring appeal, quality and practicality in working environments.”

For those of you that have already experienced the challenging road conditions that winter can bring, then you might want to know about the winner in the 4x4 category, the Dacia Duster – another which has won for the third year in the row. Not only was it chosen for its good value but also its equipment which keeps it steady when traversing country lanes covered in snow and manure.

The Editor’s Choice - The Royal Mail, for its pioneering use of Arrival’s large dual-mode electric/petrol vans. Plus their green strategy of taking on 100 Peugeot Partner electric modes into its fleet. The new electric van which although in style has been compared to Postman Pat’s get-about, is playing a crucial role in Royal Mail’s delivery system. Nine of the electric vehicles are currently on trial on the road in London and South East.
