3 methods to remove tough car stains – Halloween edition

Today’s the day ladies and gentlemen, the spookiest time of the year – Halloween! There’s plenty that you need to be prepared for: stashing enough sweets away for the hordes of trick or treaters, or if you have kids/a party to attend you need to make sure you have the costumes ready etc. However, there’s one eventuality you may not have prepared for – the annual egging. If you happen to find yourself a victim of egging, you’ll know how difficult it is to remove egg stains from your vehicle’s paint. Luckily, we’ve prepared several solutions that will help you remove those demonic stains.

1.     Good ol’ fashioned soap and water

This is a classic solution to getting rid of most stains, but you need to be thorough and you must catch the stain early. In fact, this solution is most useful if you treat the stain within an hour of it forming. First, combine gentle soap with warm water to create your removal fluid. Make sure that the soap you use is not too harsh, as this can eat away at the vehicle’s paint and make the spot even more visible. Something like car wash soap or washing up liquid will work perfectly. As for the removal tool, something gentle like a microfiber towel will increase the time of the process, but will make sure you clear the stain with no long-standing damage to your vehicle’s paint.

2.     Sand it down

If you’ve been too busy feasting on toffee apples and neglected to see the critical moment that eggs crashed into your beloved vehicle until much later, you may need a more abrasive method. Before doing anything, you need to make absolutely sure that this is a stain that warrants this treatment. Once you’re sure, pick a sandpaper with higher grit (80-120 grit range) as this uses a higher number of grains that aren’t as coarse. Soak the sandpaper for a few hours to soften it, then cut out a small piece and begin sanding the stained area gently. Once the stain is gone, polish the scratches yourself or take it to a garage to give your vehicle a smooth finish.

3.     Use a car wash and wax

The express purpose of this speciality cleaner type is to clean away dirt and stains whilst leaving the paint polished to protect it. However, not every single Wash & Wax will work with this specific stain – so use it at your own peril. First, spray the stained area with the Wash & Wax and let it sit there for a few minutes. Next, use a nylon scraper to remove the stain – be careful, if you’re too rough you’ll begin to remove the paint. Finally, reapply some Wash & Wax and rub out any remains of egg with a microfiber cloth until you can see your face gleaming on the surface of your vehicle.

Best of all, these methods can be used for many different kind of stains, such as the much-hated bird droppings. So, instead of suffering this Halloween, ‘treat’ your vehicle to the TLC it may desperately need!
