There’s a good chance that you are familiar driving your local roads. You may be familiar driving further afield, with knowledge of roads throughout the UK. However, are you familiar driving on roads outside of the UK? You may be surprised at how different this experience is. There are plenty of roads in the world that we think you should try and drive on in your lifetime, and we’re here to tell you why.

These volcanic islands offer unique breath-taking scenery that you won’t get anywhere else. Advertising on the roads is banned, meaning you’ll get an uninterrupted view. Petrol is cheap, and there are plenty of villages to visit.

Italy
Italy is rich with history, full of little towns and narrow streets that may not be the easiest drive, but perfect for any history lover. The Amalfi coast will offer you a beautiful drive along the sea, as well as show you towns like Positano which are built almost vertically on the cliffs.

Switzerland
This might be a bit of a challenging drive, but if you feel up to it then it’s more than worth it. The roads are well maintained, but mountain driving isn’t for everyone. However, the views you’ll see and beautiful scenery are unlike anywhere else in the world - you’ll see glaciers and the Alps. A small country, New Zealand has a mixture of scenery packed into its size. As there isn’t many airports in New Zealand, you’ll often find yourself needing to travel to get to your destination, so use it to your advantage. This is especially one to drive if you’re a big fan of Lord of the Rings.

Australia
If you’re planning a trip to New Zealand, try and save some time for Australia on the way. This vast country will take you a couple of days to get across, but the different scenery you’ll see will be worth it. You’ll pass plains, cities, and tropical water, so you won’t be short of things to see.
