Best places to drive in Wales

You don’t have to go abroad to have an amazing road trip. Wales offers amazing scenery, plenty to do and interesting roads to follow so it’s time to plan a trip right on your doorstep. Here’s some of the places that offer the best roads to drive.

Pembrokeshire Coast
There are beautiful beaches all along the Pembrokeshire Coast. From Tenby to St. Davids, there’s plenty of stops along the way. Tenby is a lovely little tourist spot with lovely places to eat and drink and along the drive you’ll see plenty of cliffs and beaches. St. Davids is the smallest city in the UK and boasts an impressive cathedral.

Gower
Another coastal route, there are plenty of beaches to visit on a drive around Gower. There are plenty of places to stop for a bite to drink, with a number of traditional pubs dotted around. If you like golf, you can stop off at Pennard Golf club or if you want a bit of history you can go and visit King Arthur’s Stone. Surfing is also popular in the area so if you can, take your surfboard with you.

Snowdonia
If you’re from Wales, you probably know someone who’s climbed Snowdon. That’s not the only thing to do in Snowdonia, however, as the area is a beautiful place for a road trip. See the natural beauty from the twisting roads around it and if you feel brave, you can take the train up to the summit (or walk if you’re even braver). There’s also the longest zip line in Europe and a trampoline park in a cave!

Abergwesyn Mountain Road
Passing through the Cambrian mountains, this drive is a little more tricky and perfect for the more experienced driver. Keep the 4x4 in the house – this is one for a smaller car. The roads can be a little rough and hedges can be high at points but it’s worth the effort. There’s plenty of forests and lakes to look at (as well as sheep!). Make sure your brakes are in tip-top condition and end the journey down to Tregaron.
