5 countries you can drive to in a day

Who said that a road trip abroad was a tricky task? There are plenty of countries you can take your own car to and have the adventure of a lifetime. You don’t have to drive for days to explore some of the most interesting cities Europe has to offer – here are some places you can drive to from London in a day or less.

France

Depending on where you go, this could be one of the quickest journeys. If you want to stay around Calais, it’ll be a relatively short journey – however, if you want to go to Paris you may have to add in a few hours. It’s worth the drive, however, as France has lots of beautiful towns to visit. You’ll need a few things in your car if you do this drive – a breathalyser, a warning triangle and a reflective triangle are all required. You also can’t use any apps that show you where speed cameras are.

Germany

This may be a bit further out but it’s still doable in a day – and worth it. While Berlin might be a bit of a stretch, driving to Cologne is much more manageable and is a beautiful city. If you fancy parking up the car for the night, Cologne has the highest ratio of pubs to people in Germany, so you won’t be short of a place to drink. If stunning architecture is your thing, there’s a beautiful cathedral. You’ll also need a warning triangle and reflective triangle, like in France.

Belgium

It may come as a surprise, but Belgium may be a quicker option than Paris. With the border right next to Calais, it’s a short drive into the country. There are plenty of beautiful towns to visit, however most people recommend that you see the towns in the region of Flanders. Again, you’ll need to do your research on what tools are mandatory to have in your car.

Luxembourg

This small, tucked away country packs plenty of punch. It’s a country with a lot of greenery and beautiful buildings. As it is a small country, you will have much more opportunity to travel to different towns. Perfect for any historian out there, as this country has a variety of castles and is the only country left in the world that’s a Grand Duchy.

Spain

If you carefully plan your route, it is possible to drive to Spain in a day – although you might want to split it over two if you want a less intense drive. This drive will allow you to see landscapes that you might not see without your car. It also gives you opportunity to see some of the beautiful scenery France has to offer.
