American road trips you need to go on!
We’ve all heard of Route 66 – one of the first highways in
the US and certainly the most famous. It was an important route for people
moving west in the 1930s and communities living on the route found relief in
the route as more traffic meant more business to their shops and restaurants.
Now it’s a popular road trip, boasting attractions, ghost towns and classic
American diners.
However, Route 66 isn’t the only road trip worth doing in
America. We want to share with you some other road trips you can do to explore
the United States.
Overseas Highway
Also known as ‘The Highway that goes to Sea’, this highway
runs from Miami to Key West in Florida. It’s perfectly doable in a day – if you
drive it in one sitting, it should only take around four hours. However, we
recommend that you take some time to really experience the scenery. You’ll
cross 42 bridges over the ocean and hop over a number of islands that you can
explore. Note that there is a hurricane season in Florida, so make sure to plan
ahead.
Pacific Coast Highway
State Route 1 is the longest state route in California, and
runs along the state’s coastline. You’ll have the opportunity to see amazing
beaches and stop at high-quality restaurants. If you want a taste of the big
city, this route is perfect, and there’s plenty of stops along the way if you
want to visit a little seaside town too. This is a long route, and you’re going
to want to spend at least a week driving it if you want to get the most out of
it.
Maine Lobster Trail
Maine is known for their delicious lobster, so if you’re a
seafood lover this is the perfect road trip for you. Take the coastal route 1
along Maine’s coastline and take in the ocean and forests. During the summer
there are plenty of lobster-themed activities and it’s an opportunity for rural
communities to show off the beauty. This one can be driven in a day, but make
sure to factor in some time to eat some of the local delicacies!
If you’re looking for a road trip of a lifetime, then you
should try this hefty drive! It’s not as long as you might think – around one
or two days driving, if you took no breaks! Of course, you’re going to want to
take breaks to see all of the different states you’ll drive through. There are
plenty of routes you can take – although two popular ones are on the West Coast
– the inland route, or the coastal route. We recommend the inland route so you
can see beautiful national parks and mountains. Plus, you’ll have plenty of
time to hit the beach once you reach Mexico!
