You’ll want to try these motorcycle roads in the UK
Are you a motorcyclist looking for a more interesting drive?
Maybe you’re looking for a challenge, or a change of scene. There are plenty of
roads you can take your motorbike on that will test your skills. Here’s a list
of some of the best roads in the UK to go motorcycling.
Cat and Fiddle Road
Situated between Buxton and Macclesfield, this road is named
after the pub at its summit. It’s known for being one of the most dangerous
roads in the UK, full of tight bends and livestock crossing. It has gorgeous
views over Greater Manchester, the Peak District and the Cheshire Plain. Be
aware – the speed limit has been lowered to 50mph and speed cameras installed
to make the road safer, so you won’t be reaching top speeds on this one. With
great views, you won’t want to go fast anyway.
If you’ve driven through Wales, it’s likely that you’ve
driven at least one section of the A470. This is the road that connects the
North to the South, Llandudno to Cardiff. It takes around 5 hours to complete
this drive, but it’s crammed full of beautiful scenery and Welsh landscapes.
There’s plenty of detours you can take along the way if you want to see more of
what Wales has to offer, so you might want to give yourself some extra time.
Horseshoe Pass
This mountain pass in Denbighshire, North Wales follows a
horseshoe shape around the valley. It’s an easy and enjoyable road for both new
and experienced motorcyclists, so there’s no excuse not to ride this one. If
you want to stop for a break during your journey, regular users of the road
recommend the Ponderosa Café. It’s not a long road, but you’ll definitely want
to factor in a lot of stops to take in the sights.
If you want stunning views of the Scottish Highlands, you
need to take your bike to the North Coast 500. You’ll experience a wide range
of Scottish culture along this route, from breath-taking castles to lochs
straight off a postcard. As the name suggests, its over 500 miles of road, so
it might be worth booking some places to stay if you want the full experience.
It’s a road comprised of twisty country lanes, so this is one for the more
experienced motorist.
Travelling from Northumberland to Cumbria, this route has
been named by the AA and Top Gear as one of the best drives in Britain. Stretching
around 37 miles, this is one of the shorter roads that is much more manageable
in a day. Aim to get to the Allen Valleys for around sunrise or sunset to
experience skies like you’ve never seen before. Plenty of steep bends and scenery
straight out of a movie make this route perfect on a motorbike.
