Have you ever accidentally hit a parked car and sneakily kept driving, choosing not to own up to it? Confused.com posted a recent article reporting the results of a new survey by esure car insurance that revealed a significant amount of drivers in the UK have caused damage to another vehicle and not reported it. Keep in mind, that by not stopping to sort out details with the parked car owner or failing to identify yourself by leaving a note as the person who caused the damage and you somehow do get caught after the fact, it will be looked at as a hit and run offence. That is considered a crime and you can be arrested, fined, have your license revoked, and not to mention your insurance company may also choose to withdraw your policy. In my opinion, it's just not worth the thrill of thinking you've gotten away with something. Renault has just released details on the 4 awards they've at won at the annual Brighton to London RAC Future Car Challenge on Saturday November 3rd. In a recent press release, they proudly reported how they won in categories for the ZOE supermini and Kangoo Van Z.E. as well as scooping the overall prize. The event was sponsored by RAC Motoring Services and first introduced in 2010 to showcase low energy use vehicles. It features competitors driving electric, hybrid, hydrogen and low-emission conventional petrol and diesel cars on a 63-mile route from Brighton to London, using the least amount of energy as possible. The event is a real-world test of current and future vehicle technology. Renault’s new 100% electric supermini, ZOE, won in the categories of Most Energy Efficient Small Car and the Best Pure Electric Vehicle. I have just discovered a new, well it's new to me anyway, website called MANteresting . It's like a community based social bookmarking site geared towards the interests of men, where you become a member then add ("nail") photos and share other interesting 'manly' things on your "workbench". It's easy to join and they have a wicked sense of humour (check out the guidelines page). I am not sure if I can join, but being a woman in a mostly male industry/office, I have come to enjoy manly things too. Oh and you don't "like", you "bump", as men do of course. News from the FTA this week announces that following the release on November 5, 2012 of the Welsh Report -'The Impact of the Severn Tolls on the Welsh Economy,' the Freight Transport Association (FTA) is optimistic that finally there is room for further discussion over the relaxation of tolls at the Severn Crossings, and welcomes the fact that the debate has begun in earnest. The FTA had approached the Welsh Government in May 2010 with a request that this research be carried out as the question of whether the tolls on the Severn Bridge where having a detrimental impact on inward investment into South Wales had remained unanswered for many years. Compiled by ARUP, an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists; the independent report revealed that the Severn Crossing tolls are costing the Welsh economy around £80 million a year; and has led to the announcement by First Minister Carwyn Jones for the UK Government to open discussions w...

Farmers Weekly posted an eye opening article last week titled, " Watch your speed in the farm pickup ," written by David Cousins. It reports that farmers driving larger types of pickup trucks, such as the Navara, Hilux, Ranger, D-Max, L200, and Amarok may be subject to lower speed limits. The warning regarding these 'dual purpose vehicles' comes from the National Farmers Union (NFU) who have found that their members have been stopped all too often for speeding by police whilst driving their pickups at the same speed as cars. The NFU are not sure if the farmers are being stopped for going over the unloaded weight limit of 2,040kg (which is the legal limit for driving at the same speed of a car), due to added weights from hard tops or towing gear, or if the police are simply unaware of or are confused about the rules regarding doublecab four-wheel drive pickups. Well, Volkswagen has just announced that the Amarok is now even more powerful and economical, thanks to a power upgrade for the 163 PS BiTDI engine to 180 PS, and the introduction of BlueMotion Technology models to offer improved efficiency. Amarok models for the UK and the rest of Europe are now being produced in the same factory as the Transporter in Hanover, Germany to improve supply and availability. The latest press release gives details on the upgrades which include towing limits increased from 2,800 kg to 3,000 kg for manual models and a new eight-speed automatic transmission has been introduced and has a higher towing limit of 3,200 kg.
